Baby Shower Games

By Pamela Kazmierczak

Planning a baby shower can be hectic. It is not advisable to spend your precious time searching through hundreds of possible baby shower games. Because of this, I am sharing a few of the games which are more fun or unique and could be a hit at the shower you are throwing.

The Name Game The name game is a simple but fun game that can be played when the parents have already chosen their baby's name and are willing to share it will the guests. To play the game you will need the name, pens and paper. The guests will take the letters of the name or names to form new words. You can either have it as a times game or a game that they can add to during the party until the sheets are picked up. The winner of the game can be chosen through a random drawing, the best answers or the most unique answers.

Mother's Weight Warning. This is not a game for every party. You need to make sure the mother to be is comfortable with the game before deciding to play this one. Every guest will try to guess the mother-to-be's weight and the closest to wins a prize. You may also want to give a prize to the one who guesses the least (a surprise prize from the guest of honor) or who guesses the most, a prize for blindness or honesty.

Baby Bottle Bowling. Now this game can be a little rowdy. It is always interesting to find new games to play with baby themed objects. You can fill up baby bottles with something to make them heavier like a liquid such as milk or even something solid like rice baby cereal. Then you give the guests a small ball like a tennis ball or street hockey ball and allow them to try and knock down the pins, two tries just like in real bowling. The best score wins. If there is a tie they can compete again until a winner is found.

Word Scramble. One basic game that can be used at every party is to make a list of baby related words and scramble them up. Pass out the list, and have the guests try to unscramble as many words as possible. This should be a timed game and you should make sure you include some tougher words to keep it challenging. The person with the most unscrambled words wins.

Not Allowed. This is an interesting game where at the start of the party you list some actions or phrases that are not allowed to be mentioned during the party, such as not saying the word labor or the phrase whatever or no one is allowed to roll their eyes of pat someone else's hand. After mentioning all the things that are not allowed to be done or said pass out something baby related like pacifiers, one to each person. Everytime someone catches another person doing something which is not allowed they can take all of the pacifiers that person has. Near the end of the party count up who has the most pacifiers and that person is the winner.

Baby Advice Game This game is a way for the guests to share their insights with the new parents. From the time a woman announces her pregnancy on, everyone, including perfect strangers, wants to help her by giving unsolicited advice. At some point, usually rather soon, a women stops listening. BY having this game people can share advice that the parents will at least consider. You should buy a special book or make shapes like hearts or flowers out of large construction paper. Let the guests each write down whatever they want, advice, stories, etc., for the mother. The parents can read them later when they are willing to listen to what everyone has to say.

The above games are literally just the tip of the iceberg; there are so many different games that can be played at a baby shower. Baby showers can be fun but thy can also be hectic. Before making a decision on which games to play it is a good idea to ask the mother to be how she feels about each game.
